after upgrading to windows 8.1
for last few days,my hp support assitant is displaying sum msg regrdng the update to windows 8.1...when i went through it,it says tht my hp notebook is not tested with windows 8.1..i gt to knw tht system would be unstable if windows 8.1 runs on such notebooks..so now wht m i supposed to do....get back to windows 8 by recovery????...give sum suggestns if u have anyy....my notebook's model is pavilion 15 e016tx

HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook - Touch screen stops working after sleep
I have an HP Spectre 13 notebook. When the system comes back up from sleep, or is powered on, the touch screen doesn't work ~60% of the time. Completely shutting down the system and doing a cold boot usually fixes the issue.
When the touch screen is not working, the "HID Compliant touch screen" dev note in Device Manager is not visible. This seems like a bug in the touch firmware.
Is anyone else seeing this issue?
Is HP aware of the bug and is a fix under way?

Unable to load windows 8.1 from store; envy touchsmartM6-K015DX 64 bit
Windows 8.1 will not load into my Envy from the store on the start screen. It eventually comes up with an error message: Error parsing. C:\windows\microsoft.net\framework64 Parser returned error OxCOOCE556

HP Envy Ultrabook 4, internet access only through desktop, none on start menu
Running Windows 8.1 and IE 11. Cannot access internet via wifi on Start menu with IE or any of the applications. Issue began yesterday. No new software, hardware or apps installed recently or updates that I know of. Start menu worked fine, turned the computer off for about and hour, started back up and problem surfaced. Can access internet via wifi on desktop - no problem there. Have tried rebooting several times. Any suggestions?

Brightness Stuck on VERY Low Windows 8.1
Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ57-339WM and recently (within the past 2-4 weeks) my laptop will set its self back to lowest brightness setting possible and you can't change in in the settings or with the key on the keyboard until you restart. Well now not even restarting will help and it is stuck on the dimmest setting possible! I can not see anything on the screen and I don't know how to fix it.
I have tried updating the display drivers and all it says is that they are up to date. I have tried looking for any updates. I have tried un-install and re-install display drivers. And I have tried installing a new display driver from HP (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4132&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5173039)
If it helps, I upgraded from the Windows 7 Home Premium OS to the Windows 8 (and 8.1 through the Windows Store) OS. But I have never had an issue with this before and I upgraded the OS the first day Win 8 came out.
How can I get this fixed?? Your help is much appreciated!

Does HP have a record mapping system serial number to OS product key?
It has come to pass that my HP 6730s laptop a) needs Win 7 Pro installed and b) the product key on the bottom has worn off over time. I could download the Win7 ISO to reinstall but I need my original product key. Any chance it's somewhere recoverable other than on my former laptop?

How do I upgrade to Windows 8.1 on Spectre XT Touchsmart 15-4010nr
Hello All,
I have a Spectre XT Touchsmart 15-4010nr purchased 11/25/2013. I've upgraded the HDD to a 500gb SSD. I would like to upgrade the operating system from Windows 8 x64 to Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with Media Center. I understand the process and have attempted it successfully several times on this machine. The main advantage is that the Thunderbolt port begins to function. It does not function for me in Windows 8.
The main drawback is that following Windows Update, after the final reboot, following the installation of the updates, the machine boots to a black screen. No mouse pointer, nothing.
I am now back to Windows 8 Pro, x64, (my copy).
I am hoping I have missed something basic like reinstalling a driver after Windows Updates to counter a problematic update. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello guys, I have a problem with my laptop HP Pavilion dv7-4077cl with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, I'm trying to perform a system recovery to its original factory conditions, I'm using a USB flash drive (Kingston DataTraveller 100 G2 32 GB) the creation of the media was confirmed by the Recovery Media Creation, but when starting, I got a message saying "The system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this system with the media" but I don't know why it happens

Microsoft Word Starter gone? Help plz
I somehow lost Microsoft Word Starter. I was using it before. Then I decided to install a trial run of Microsoft Office 2013. And now that trial is over, and I want to go back to using Microsoft Word Starter. Each time I try to open it up, I get the following error: "Click-2-Run configuration failure". Is there some way I can re-install it? Thanks.

Switch User Not Available
After I did the windows 8.1 update I can no longer switch users. When I click or touch the top right hand corner on my picture the only options are Change Account Picture, Lock, or Sign Out. Switch User is not an option. If I do CTRL, ALT, DEL the options are Lock, Sign Out, Change Password, Task Manger. There is anothe User on the System. If I log off I can signon as the other user, but there is not a Switch User.

Bluetooth not working - HP ENVY 17 j160nr
I've got a brand new HP ENVY 17 laptop, model j160nr. I also have a m HP Bluetooth MOuse x4000b. When I first set up the computer, the mouse paired easily. However, at least four times in the past week, the mouse has stopped working. Sometimes it comes back when I reboot, but now it has been out most of today and is not coming back. When the mouse works, the Control Panel shows Bluetooth as as option. When the mouse is not working, there is no listing for Bluetooth under the Settings. The Devices screen shows the mouse as "not connected."
Is this a problem with the mouse? With a driver? How do I fix it? At this point, the mouse is so erratic in sometimes being connected and sometimes not, that I am tempted to go back to a USB mouse.

17-e040 - Windows 8.1 update - black screen
I upgreaded my HP Pavilion from Windoes 8 to 8.1. However, when I close the LCD screen, or after it goes into hibernation mode, the display will not come back on. I have to reboot. This is the second time this has happened, I exchanged with Staples the first time, now this is the second time with the same monitor.
Here's the nutty part: even after I do a factory restore it still has the same problem with Windows 8.
Any suggestions?
