Dual voltage

HP has just replaced the power plug for my Pavilion laptop.  Is this dual voltage?  There is NO switch on it but the label indicates 110-240.  I purchased it in the US but  am taking it to New Zealand.  I have been given conflicting information - (a) that I do need a voltage converter (b) that using such a voltage converter will impede charging.  I am, therefore, confused.

Failure codes on 2000 Notebook PC need help

I have a 2000-2d69NR Notebook.  It is WIN 10. Not sure if 32 bit or 64 bit.

It boots up to do the  "preparing automatic  repair" and then after 5 seconds it turns the whole computer off.

I ran the quick hard drive test twice and came up with these 2 failure ids:

1ST TEST :   SHORT DST  60C49H-70985P-MFGJWK-60UD03

2ND TEST:   LONG DST     60C49H-70985P-MFGJWK-61CM03

Is there anyway for me to fix this myself?

Thanks

Karen

HP dv7-6c95dx laptop and Windows 10 to Windows 7 Operating System Restoration

This is my final status and answer to my questions previously posted re: the availability of drivers from HP or Microsoft for the proper functioning of Windows 10 on the aforementioned HP laptop.

HP and Microsoft both do NOT plan to and will NOT EVER provide the Win 10 drivers to the HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx laptop. The reason is that this make and model of HP laptop is over 3 years old. My HP dv7 laptop is 4 years old. 3 years was HP's cutoffto test and modify their computer's full compatibility with Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system. Neither company will EVER provide this service for this make and model HP laptop.  It took me over a week of talking with both Microsoft and HP for this to finally be made clear to me.

Therefore, I made the decision to go back to a Windows 7 operating system rather than to limp along using Windows 10 which I had on my laptop for over 11 months. (Store would not and never did operate at all.)

I feel that Microsoft should not have "pushed/forced" their new Windows 10 Operating System on my laptop without some warning of the possible incompatibility with my computer.

Therefore, I went through the time-consuming (1-1/2 weeks), labor-intensive process with HP's paid subscription (HP Care Smart Friend) help to reformat/fully clean the hard drive (Windows 10 is removed as well as everything else), purchase and then install newly purchased Windows 7 discs, run all the updates (200+) of the Win 7 O. S., restore (this took 3 attempts to get this perfectly done) all my backed-up data (I had on my own previously backed up my laptop's 600 GB of data to my own external 2 TB hard drive called My Passport Ultra), re-install my software programs back onto my laptop, and optimize my laptop's operation.  I'm still not 100% back to where I was 4 years ago, but I am very happy to have a fully-functional Windows 7 operating system  back on my laptop. HP provided 98% of the help to perform this process. Most of the help involved HP taking remote control of my laptop to perform these services as I watched and interacted with them over the phone and sometimes off the phone using a dialog box. I must say, I learned a lot by going through this process, and I feel I "got my money's worth" from HP.

I want to make it clear that HP, with the HP Care Smart Friend technical support annual paid subscription ($215/yr) I have with them, did an excellent job in helping me through this process. I also paid Microsoft $150 for their annual technical support subscription for both my laptop and my desktop in order to obtain their expert help. I talked with multiple people to receive the help I received, people mostly in Nova Scotia and El Salvador.

I hope this helps those who are wondering what to do with your computer if you have Windows 10 incompatibility issues on a slightly older laptop such as I had. It is a time-consuming, technically-demanding option. I hated to consider throwing out a perfectly good laptop and buying a new one in order to have a fully-functioning, reliable operating system.  You may decide differently.

Logon Password

I can logon to my laptop with my fingerprint but have forgotten my Windows credentials logon password. Is there a way to reset the password once logged on with my fingerprint? Making a "Reset Password Disk" requires the Current password without a fingerprint input option, same with manually resetting the password.

Any suggestions?

Blue Screen Error: c000021a Fatal System Error

Hey,

I have Windows 7 running on my HP Pavilion g6 Laptop:

Notebook Model: HP Pavilion g6 Notebook pC

Product Number: QE058UA#ABA

Yesterday I clicked accidentally on the  Windows 10 popup dialog which appeared below right in the corner   . The system run 20 minutes and did some cofiguration,  as a result I am getting this error in the advanced boot options.

coooo21a {fatal eystem error}. The initial session process or system procress terminated unexpectedly with status of
0x0000001 0x000107c8. The system has been shut down

I have tried several options to solve the problem:

1.Lunch startup Repair (recommended) --->

Problem signuture:

Problem Event Name:         StartRepairOffline

Promlem Signature 01:      6.1.7600.16385

Promlem Signature 02:      6.1.7600.16385

Promlem Signature 03:      unknown

Promlem Signature 04:      -1

Promlem Signature 05:      AutoFailover

Promlem Signature 06:     18

Promlem Signature 07:     BadPatch

OS version:                             6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

Locale ID:                                1033

If I select "view advanced options for system recovery and support"-->

a) statup Repair     --> I am getting the error above

b)System Restore  --> No store points have been created on your computer's system drive. To create a restore point open system protection

c)System Image Recovery --> Windows can not find a system image on this computer. Attach the backup hard disk or insert the final DVD from a backup set and click Retry. Alternatively, close this dialog for more options (I do not have the recovery cd but I have created bootable windows 7 cd by ImgBurn programm)

d)Windows Memory Diagnostic --> when runnig it nothing is being found

c)Command Prompt (with its help I backuped my data, run chkdsk C: /f /r /x, and sfc /scannow)

i)chkdsk C: /f /r /x

result: failed to transfer logged messaged to the event log with status 50.

ii) sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process wil take some time.

There is a system repair peding which requires reboot to complete. restart Windows and run sfc again (When I run it again nothing happens)

2.In the advanced Boot options (starting the laptop and keeping pressing F8) none of these options helped me but with "Disable automatic restart on system failure" I could see the error:

coooo21a {fatal eystem error}. The initial session process or system procress terminated unexpectedly with status of
0x0000001 0x000107c8. The system has been shut down

3.Restarting the laptop--> ESC-->F2--> HP Advanced System Diagnose --> Start-Up test --> Optimized DST: Not Available

4. Now I made bootable windows 7 CD to reinstall Windows 7 but the problem I can not boot from the internal CD/DVD ROM Drive. I tried to boot from this CD by other laptop and I could boot from it.

Restarting the laptop and pressing ESC --> F9 --> Internal CD/DVD Rome drive --> Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

I  have checked the Boot order in the Bios (F10)--> system configurations-->Boot options (CD-ROM Boot - Enable; Floppy Boot - Disabled;  Internal Network Adapter Boot - Disabled )--> Boot order:

Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive

Notebook Hard Drive

USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disk

USB CD/DVD ROM Drive

   ! USB Floppy

   !  Network Adapter

I read about the Boot secure here

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736054

but I do not found this option in my Bios!

I hope u can help me to solve the problem or describing me how can I boot from my bootable cd   sine I tried everything I know Smiley Sad

I appreciate any help.

Regards,

tree31
