I recently bought this notebook with ten months warranty still on it. HPSA presented a message asking me if I wanted to download available updates, and I started the process. It has been "downloading" for two hours now, with no activity on the wifi according to the task manager. Should it take this long?

 

Edit: I just cancelled out of that and opened up SA so that I could request a download manually. SA tells me that there are no updates available, so why did SA flag up available updates in the first place?

Laptop screen has just started going black when I need to plug the ac adapter in to charge, if I take it out screen goes back to normal.  I have not downloaded anything new recently.  I did download the free Windows 10 but that was months ago.  Any help would be appreciated but please not too technical as I am no expert on computers.

swsetup folder issue:

I need to free up space on my C-drive.  My swsetup folder takes up 10% of the C-drive.  I would like to put it on the D-drive.  How can I redirect the HP program that uses files in that folder to look for them on the D-drive?

I am using an HP 8770 Elitebook running Windows 7.

Hi

 I have a hp 15 notebook pc windows 10  64 bits. First i wanted to reset my laptop  and during the reseting it said problem has occured with reseting so i continued normal to windows 10 but it did not even want to startup . It only showed the hp logo. Then i opened F11 and tried to recover  the computer. It then said there is no image recovery file and it cant reset , refresh and recover and also it doesn't have the image file at all . So im asking how i can fix this situation and alos i doh not have a recover usb . and i would also like to ask where i can download the image revovery or get it

My girl friend recently bought a HP off of face book. Which everything looked fine on it before she bought it, but before the woman gave it to us she did a factory reset on it. Which i understand but now we can't do anything with it. It's stuck in a Boot up loop where it turns on, goes to the hp loading screen, and then the screen goes black. Then just keeps repeating. i've tried reseting it again and factory resetting it but nothing has worked. I've done the f11 trick as well as the escape trick on start up. It also says my recovery partians and recovery media are missing. I've been led to believe i need the recovery Media to fix this issue.   How or Where could i Get one? And also how do i go about using it?

Hi,

I have heard a lot of great words about Windows 10, and I am planning to upgrade. I own a HP laptop with pre-installed Windows 8 on OEM license. However, some sources say that a few of my apps might not work on Windows 10. I decided to upgrade and see myself. I know, that Windows 10 offers a downgrade option within 1 month of installation, so I can go back to Windows 8 if something won't work. Will my product key move as well? Or shall I do some kind of system backup to make sure there will be no trouble with licensing. I would love to hear an advice from more experienced users.

Hi, I'm upgrading a HP EliteBook from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  Nothing but fun.  I'm at the point where the files for the Windows 10 upgrade have been installed, but cannot boot.  The screen is displaying "issing operating system", note the M is not appearing.  I have used the USB tool, and have been able to boot from it to get to the advanced options.  I have run the repair 4 times, and still it says it cannot fix the system.  Any further ideas?

Hi my computer starts says repairing automotic and then it shows compaq logo and loading at bottom after that there is black screen yet the laptop is on. Is there any solution?

Before, when my laptop had randomly shut off, it would turn back on in a matter of hours. But this time I've had no luck for about four or five months. If it has a charge, the laptop will vibrate when I turn the power button on, but that is it. I've already checked to see if it was a display problem btw (it isn't).

The last time I was using it said there were some problems and it would turn on once they are fixed. Please help, thanks.

Hi there, I've recently made quite a mistake. I have followed some instructions to perform a factory reset on my Dv2000 which said "In order to access the recovery mode make the hp recovery partition the active partition". The fact is that I don't own any Windows intller disk. Due to this, my pc crushes before starting windows because the file txtsetup.sif is missing. Is there any chance to solve this without purchasing a new windows software?

I recently had a problem with my HP envy and had to reformat my entire drive and I lost the HP recovery image that came with the laptop. I did a clean install of a Windows 8.1 iso instead but I keep getting a black screen issue when I download and install the video card drivers. The warranty expired on the laptop a while ago and I'm really strapped for cash ATM so I can't buy the recovery disks. Is there anyway to download an iso of the recovery disk? Or someway to solve this problem that happens when I download and install drivers or updates? Would doing a Windows 10 clean install help? I just need my computer to be functional again, I don't care how that gets accomplished as long as it is done.

 

This laptop is incredibly important to me, if I can't afford to purchase the recovery disk I certainly can't afford a new computer.

If you need the Serial number or the PN just ask. I just didn't want to post too much sensitive information.

It originally had windows 10 64 bit… but it now has Windows 8.1 64 bit
i5 processor 8gig RAM

Literally just shut the lid and opened it back up and it wouldn’t boot windows. It’s stuck at the HP screen saying it’s diagnosing my problem. Tried a soft reset and a hard reset where you remove the battery and put it back in while it’s unplugged. Didn’t help. I can’t boot in safe mode. I tried doing a recovery which was successful but when it restarts it says “There was a problem restarting your PC”. I got frustrated and did a factory reset and that did the same thing the factory reset was successful and was when it reverted back to 8.1 as that is the OS I bought it with but then it still wouldn’t let me into windows. I was going to try and do startup repair but had I known it would require an administrator I would have never done the factory reset. I know I was rash but I just wanted to get it working. But yeah I have no idea what’s wrong. I don’t feel like it’s a hardware issue just something is keep windows from working. Should I attempt a repair disk? Would this help?

I am having a problem with my laptop after updating to Windows 10 from Windows 8. From what I could tell it completed the download, installed the upgrade, then installed updates (this took like 8 hours), then on the last restart the computer would come on I would sign in and then the screen would go blank with no Desktop or Icons. I can view and move my curser and the screen has a light blue tent. I can select Ctrl/Alt/Delete to go to Task Manager and or shut down. I have tried to restart a couple times, but no change. Anyone have any suggestions

I need some recovery media for a 635, can't figure out where to get it from. No links on the drivers and download page. The computer now has Debian on it which works ok, except installing proprietary drivers is a bit more work than in Ubuntu. Anyway it's for my brother and I think he prefers Windows. I also want to know how much the hard drive hardware kit costs because the screws for the hard drive is missing. Maybe I can get screws like that elsewhere? Says in the repair manual they're called Philips M2.5x6.0.
