Have HP Touchsmart tm2 laptop, and although older than offically supported, was able to install Windows 8.0 but now cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1 because I can't get it to boot off the CD/DVD or USB flash drive.
The Windows store says my 8.0 cannot be updated to 8.1 via the store, so I want to do a fressh 8.1 install and have purchased the software and key. But I cannot get the laptoip to boot off the USB CD/DVD or a USB flash drive (or even a floppy)
Since the 8.0 install, when the computer boots, an HP logo appears, but there are no options to enter the BIOS setup or specify boot sequence. I have no reason to believe I modified the boot sequence, so it still should look at any of these external devices first, but it doesn't (there is a brief access to the CD/DCD, but it proceeds to boot off the hard drive).
It seems like the Win 8.0 install did something to the BIOS. Have tired F10, F6, F2, Del, Esc etc during the boot process, even though the prompts don't appear. Perhaps I could reflash the BIOS? Or is there an executable I could run from wtining Win 8.0 to access the BIOS Otherwise I'm stuck.
Anyone with similar problem/solution?
thanks
