Hi
Can anyone tell me how/if/when this - imho quite new - laptop will work properly with win8?
I believe I've updated and installed everything from the HP download site which is possible - including the bios.
By far the most frustrating are the graphics card issues. Switching seems gone and upon startup the screen is sometimes black - can be corrected by blindly typing password then wait then Alt-F4 -> enter (I've Classic Shell boot to desktop installed).
Then add all the other problems like keyboard backlight/proximity sensor (I really don't care about those, I've considered just disabling that). But the wireless key seems not to work and is orange no matter what. Setting /seems/ to be settable from within windows though so that is tolerable also.
But the backlight can't be adjusted by the keybord keys. That is something very much needed to frequently adjust and a pain to adjust using Win8.
Installing Catalyst directly from AMD's website changes nothing except then backlight adjusting is then not possible.
Add to that issues with the sound which has been there since Win7 right from start and has NEVER been fixed. The sound is very harsh and extremely thin because Beats Audio setting are very flicky and the subwoofer only works if the machine either 1. boots with the HD3000 graphic card (only possible in Win7) or regional setting is set to en/US (a few other enlish countries seems OK too but living in Denmark (da/DK) that is a no go for me). So unless using the laptop at home with external speakers or with headphones I turn the sound off as it's totally unbareable otherwise.
Please help me. I'm on the edge of desperation. Win8 has been out for quite some time and I believe this machine is so new that it shouldn't have been abandoned by HP. When I think of how fast Acer was to add Win7 support for my old laptop which at the point was relatively older it's beyond me that there's still a heap of issues with this machine. I'd which I'd gone for a cheaper Acer og Asus at the time I bought this machine but I really liked the HP hardware quality. But software.... What a disaster. HP take a look at a company like Synology. They support many years old devices. Guess what... They don't loose money on that when all factors is accounted for. Why? Because customers are then loyal and when needing a new NAS the possibility of choosing a Synology again is very high (many of my friends have bought other brands which was desupported very fast but my Synology received updated many years after purchase).
Really hope someone can help. As said I'm on the edge of desperation. I'm using Win8 on all my other computers including an old Acer netbook(!) with no problems at all. But that HP is nothing but frustrations already begun with Win7 and sound and now even worse with Win8.
Not exactly experiences that'll make me consider HP in the future despite they have some of the nicest hardware.
