System shut down, no power??

My laptop has just gone black and **bleep** down. I am unable to turn it back on at all.
Iv tried to remove the battery and unplug the power adapter then plug it all back in again and still nothing. The only bit of life it has is when I re attach the battery; the battery light flashes to say it's connected but no continual light to show it is charging..
When I press the power up botton the battery light flashes 3 times...
Please help, I am due to go traveling next week and have everything on there I will be needing.!
