I have an HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4010 NR, purchased 10/14/13. The computer came with Windows 8, and I immediately upgraded to Windows 8.1. I had no issues until the beginning of January.
My HP Support Assistant software then suggested that the video driver was in need to be upgraded. I clicked to accept installation of the upgrade..... and my computer display went black with only the white cursor showing and able to move about.
HP support by phone tried many fixes over the phone but none was able to restore the display. HP support then asked me to ship the computer to them on 1/14/2014 for a re-install of the original Windows 8 operating system.
In subsequent conversations since with HP Support I have been told to "DO NOT UPGRADE" to Windows 8.1. I am told that there is a known issue with certain HP laptops and the display adapter drivers now available. It is now March 2014 - and am told there is still no fix, and "we don't know when there will be a fix". It is very frustrating to not be able to upgrade to take advantage of the benefits of Windows 8.1 - Will this ever be fixed? Anyone else having the same problem?
