I recently bought a new 1 TB hard drive for my HP Pavilion DV9500nr, which I bought on Ebay. I tried to clone the hard drive. Naturally, it didn't work. Typical Microsoft crap!
The thing is, I don't even want the OS running on that hard drive! I want windows running on the NEW hard drive, which has five times the capacity and works just fine when I plug it in. The problem isn't the hard drive, the problem is $R@#$@#$@# Microsoft!!!!! What do I mean? Earlier this evening, I went to Microsort.com to see about getting a copy of the latest version of Windows to run on my laptop. It was easy to access their upgrade version, but, though the website spoke of something they called an "OEM Version," there was no link to it! These jerks just ***assumed*** that I would be sticking with my old hardware! That would be ***NO!!!!!!***
Now, to go from infuriating to comical, I'm getting messages that my copy of windows is not genuine. I go to the website, and it just sits there with a screen that says "Windows validation in process" and has a toilet-flush swirl spinning around on it. Mind you, I have yet another hard drive with a perfectly good copy of ubuntu linux running on it that I can plug in at any time and make the hardware useful. Problem is that 1) I have, as far as I understand it, a legitimate copy of windows, transferred legally when I bought the machine, and am being denied access to it and 2) i DON'T WANT THAT OS ON MY COMPUTER, I WANT TO INSTALL SOMETHING NEWER, and they are making THAT difficult for me.
NOTE: I ***WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES*** pay money to get an OS that I ***DO NOT WANT*** running on a hard drive that ***IS OBSOLETE.***
So...what are my options? Is there some way that I can get Windows 7 or Windows 8 on the new hard drive, or am I just going to have to go with Ubuntu all the way and find ways to tell Microsoft what to do with themselves? Yes, I'm VEXED at these jerks! They've made my life difficult with ABSOLUTELY NO NEED.
