Hello folks, my first post here.
I have a customised edition of the HP Pavilion DV6 3100 Select Notebook that I purchased at the backend of 2010. The notebook came with the Windows 7 Home Edition pre-installed. It had a Samsung 640 GB 7200 RPM HDD that is breathing its last. I've just got a Seagate 750 GB 5400 RPM HDD as a replacement. I had initially made the five recovery disks using the HP Recovery Manager but am unable to restore factory settings on the new HDD due to a combination of poor health of the optical drive and Recovery Disc 1. Hence, I made another recovery through USB media option on a 32 GB Flashdisk. The problem I'm facing is the Restoration Incomplete error and when I try to view the detils, occasionally, a dialog box appears displaying: "an unnamed file was not found". However, most of the times no details are visible and the logs are in a zipped archive that is password protected. As per my limited knowledge and understanding, it could be due to one of the following issues:
- Old and the new HDDs are not of the same sizes.
- Maybe the Cyberlink Recovery Utility does not allow the provision of restoring the system on a new HDD and I have to install the following update: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-80183-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
- My old HDD is a dynamic disk wheareas the potential replacement is a basic disk.
The following details may be valuable:
- The HDD and Memory Tests were passed without any issues.
- I can still access my old HDD.
Looking forward to suggestions that can help restore my system.
Cheers.
