Hi, I have lost the C: partition after a failed system restore. Fortunately I saved all the files existing in the "D:\preload\" folder from the recovery partition.  There are one "BUILD.WIM" and the rest are named "Install*.SWM" : recovery.PNGIs there a way to restore the system using these files? Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance!!!

How to boot Compaq 15 Notebook PC from USB stick

$

I want to be able to boot my laptop from a USB stick, and decided to test this by writing an ISO image on to the stick.

On the USB stick, I've used Rufus, Win32Disk Imager, and Balena Etcher on separate occasions to write the ISO on it (also reformated the USB to FAT32 each time), but get the same error message (see below) for each variant.

On the PC, I've attempted to boot it from the USB device by selecting Start -> Settings -> Recovery -> Advanced Startup (Restart Now button) -> Use a device -> USB Drive (UEFI).

This always results in the error message `The selected boot device failed. Press <Enter> to Continue`.

In BIOS, I've also changed the boot order for both UEFI and legacy to boot from USB first, but the system loads Windows anyway (even with the USB stick inserted).

Somewhere I saw the advice to enable `Legacy Support` in BIOS but this has no effect.

Question: How can I get the Compaq PC to boot from the USB stick (or at least to recognize the stick when booting from it)?

BIOS: Insyde F.23, 19/09/2014

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me with this. I am not good with computers and please explain it like you have to e plain it to a baby if you are will to assist. Thank you

on start up I get a message that "solutioncentre.msi cannot be found"

On startup my laptop has started to display the message "cannot find the solutioncentre.msi" and shows a location in users\wblee\local\temp 7z6029" (approx to memory)

This file doesn't exist though a similar one with a slightly different filename is present the file cannot be used as it is unsuitable.

If I cancel the load it starts all over again, repeatedly looking and driving me crazy!  it takes about a half hour to stop this process.   I found a reference to An adobe update giving a problem which looked similar so uninstalled adobe, then downloaded it but now it won't reinstall!   Everything runs very slowly whilst this in ongoing.

I can find lots of problems referencing the solutioncentre.msi but all appear to have different issues to mine.

Will uninstalling HP Support assistant do any good.

Any advice would be appreciated.

regards

Bill Lee

Sleep Mode Malfunction

Hi everyone!

Please i need help with my laptop.

So it runs smoothly without any issue BUT the only issue i'm having is that it goes into sleep mode sometimes fine and other times it just turns off the display (even when i tried setting the TURN OFF DISPLAY to NEVER) and it wont be able to go into sleep mode to the point where i will have to press and hold the power button down to turn it off losing all my unsaved works. i checked the event viewer and i saw the "distributed com error"at the times these thing happens.

"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}

But i dont know what the problem is really because i did a clean install of windows recently and this still happens.

Issues getting into system recovery mode via F11 at start up.

I just attempted to do a factory reset on said laptop. As soon as I tuned on the system, I repeatedly began pressing F11 to enter system recovery mode as stated to do on other threads. The laptop froze soon after and has been on this screen since. Is it safe to power it down at this point?  If not how do I start over and make it work and why would it have done this in the first place? image.jpg

My hard drive went out. How do I download Win 10 OEM so I can apply my USB recovery data?

My 2013 HP envy laptop's hard drive went out entirely and can't be salvaged. I installed new SSD in it's place but my recovery USB won't recover my data to the new drive. Microsoft site says I need to download the operating system and then use the recovery USB to restore my data. They won't let me download it from their site. They tell me to download OEM software from HP site. I am 2 years out of warrantly. How do I download that? Thanks.

Drying out my labtop

Can’t reset and when I try it says I don’t ya e enough space
